REVIEWS OF BOOK I

Great summer reading

My mother-in-law recommended these books because she had a connection with the author and I am so glad she did. The books (book one and two) or so well written and so fun to read. I'm not a sailor or boater of any kind, but still enjoyed all the details of what it took to sail a boat and charter a boat. The realtionship Judi had with her husband comes across the pages so well. I highly recommend these books, they are especially a good read in the summer time!

We had the wonderful pleasure of cruising the British Virgin Islands with Judi and Dan. Judi shares their "log book" of memories and very personal chapters of their life together. It is a love story, an adventure story and a true story. Curl up with this book, an umbrella drink and escape to the islands on the luxury Trumpy yacht! It is a journal of family, determination and Captain Dan's Ladies! Written with laughter, heart and humor, you will be jumping aboard Book 2 as soon as you finish the last page!

Finished this book disappointed that there wasn't more to read, I missed the story line like you would an old friends voice.I am currently half way throught the second one Book 2 and I'm loving it! Hats off to Gilman for sharing her love and life with us the humble reader.

After two charters with the Gilman's I was excited to read the inner workings of this team. Judith's books are an excellent read and ones that can't be put down for a minute. I can't wait for "Beyond the Sea". My sun visor off to Judith for her strength, love and friendship with family and friends.

I really loved this book, and couldn't put it down. It made me laugh and cry as I remembered the remarkable love my Mom and Dad shared, as she vividly portrays the difficult adjustment from her prior life to life aboard a small boat. I appreciate this book tremendously because it took me along for all of the journey, even tho I did share exciting days in the Caribbean with my parents. Start with Book 1, and continue the adventure in Book 2. Anyone who loves romance, life and adventure will find these books exciting, warm, loving, and well written.

I wish I could write a review that would do credit to this book. Judi has written a true life adventure book with grace and wit. The reader will learn about people, Florida, the Caribbean, weather, history, geography, chartering, and cooking while traveling with two interesting, bright, fun people. Judi tells the story of a true love that most of us only wish for. I can hardly wait for Book 3.

THE CAPRICORN LADY SAILS AGAIN,

Sail along with Dan and Judi and the Lady in the second book of their life as they charter the best sailboat and motor yacht in the BVI. You can almost smell the briny sea and taste Judi's gourmet meals as page after page unfolds a story of life on the ocean and the people they encounter. After reading Judi's story, I felt a strong bond with her and now know why I admired her so much when chartering. Her books are a pure delight.

This is a true story of a man and a woman destined to meet and share a life of adventure, laughter, tragedy and love. From their first lunch together in 1964, to their last embrace in April 2003, Daniel Gilman and Judith Bauer epitomized the term "soul mates".

Book one takes us on their journey from the world of high level real estate, through an abrupt departure on their 40' sail boat Capricorn and finally to the Caribbean. The agony of leaving family and possessions behind is gradually softened by their new lives, new friends and a grand new world.

Through a tapestry of defeats and accomplishments, Judi takes us with her on a cruise through her most cherished years with her "Danny" by her side. We experience their hartache and their hard earned victories. As we sail with them on the Capricorn from island to island to the acquisition of their motor yacht, Capricorn Lady, we eat, swim, dive, and tour their stunningly beautiful yet at times unforgiving part of the world.

Judi's vivid and deeply personal account of their life together leaves the reader with an enticing anticipation for book two. These books are just not for those who shared the experience of a cruise with Dan and Judi. It is for the romantic, the gourmet, and the adventurer in all of us.

This Book Revives Bright Memories, But Brings Tears, October 11, 2005

The second book in this series is wonderful. It brings back memories of days living in the islands, when the challenges of living were overcome by the joy and energy of Caribbean life. Be sure to have a tissue close at hand when reading this book, as it is not all chuckles, as you read of entertaining charter guests and crew. The book deals with deeper subjects such as family, illness and death, and there is an undercurrent of regret for the things that might have been, but this is overcome by the sheer joy the author, my Mother, felt about her life with her captain. I shared the adventure with "The Capricorn Lady", and loved every minute of it.

A review of both Books 1 and 2, January 11, 2006

The Voyage of The Capricorn Lady is a voyage anyone can take without leaving your living room. From the moment I began reading, I understood that Judi was not only sharing with us a wonderful part of her life, but developing a bittersweet peace within herself as she wrote. She writes simply and beautifully as she takes us on a voyage of success, failure, and success, peppered with the determination and self doubt we all experience. As we come to know Judi and Dan, we can relate to their difficult choices, and we can rejoice in their happiness.

Throughout this journey, we are confident that Dan and Judi's business savvy, and devotion to family and each other will inspire them through their most difficult times.
These books are not only a tribute to a man by his wife, but a true to life experience of living a dream laced with laughter, danger, and above all love...

In Book 1, we meet Captain Dan and his "Capricorn Lady", Judi. Overcoming unbelievable personal challenges, they continue charting their course on the 71 foot luxury Trumpy Motor yacht. "Capricorn Lady" is a labor of love, and we live each moment with Dan and Judi. Charter guest stories are touching, funny and human nature at its best! Book 2 takes you on many trips around the British Virgins, and you feel like you are also escaping on the "Lady," savouring each adventure with the Gilmans and their guests. Book 2 is an intimate, loving tribute to Captain Dan. Judi has opened her heart and the diary of her life with her beloved husband. Readers will relate to her emotions and cheer her independance. Can hardly wait for Book 3!

While it isn't necessary to read Volume One to appreciate Volume Two, I would strongly recommend it. Volume Two continues the adventures of the Capricorn Lady from time in the Caribbean to life in the Pacific Northwest. Chartering in the British Virgin Islands provided adventures and stories galore and Judi presents them in her normal straight forward, honest fashion while amazing us with the activities and meals enjoyed by the guests. Makes the reader wish they had shared time on the Trumpy with Captain Dan and Mate Judi. While Judi loses her Captain in the end, the reader feels her pain but also her strenghth and determination to make Dan proud. This is truly an inspiring story.
