LIFE WAS NOT JUST ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE

After selling Capricorn, Dan and I purchased a classic 1947 71’ Trumpy Houseboat, bringing it to the British Virgin Islands in 1980. In the years to come, we hosted famous guests from around the world, including film directors such as Arnon Milchan (Director of Pretty Woman, Mr. & Mrs. Smith and numerous other productions), royals, families and stars from the film and TV world. Robert DeNiro spent a week on our yacht with Milchan and Barry Primus of film, stage and TV fame, and our guests became not only valued customers but much loved friends.

In my second book I confess what life was really like, “below decks”, as we strived to provide luxurious fantasy vacation cruises for our guests. Cooking elaborate meals in a small galley, quietly dealing with crew antics and maintenance problems, while pampering guests with warm hospitality and excellent service, is described in detail. I smile at the remembrance of each delicious moment.

My guests always told me that one day I should write a book, and I said I might, after I was out of the charter business, with names changed to protect the “guilty”. I hope even the “guilty” will smile as I recollect some of the most “memorable” incidents.

In the first book we almost lost our lives the night we were rescued by a mysterious stranger after Dan was struck in the face by the engine propeller, and in the second book I tell how we almost lost our boat and the business we had struggled so hard to build. Charter friends and strangers helped protect our vessel from the armed thugs who tried to seize Capricorn Lady at Nanny Cay, and the pirates were defeated.

The second book in my voyage of discovery, like the first, is not just a collection of adventurous cruising and chartering stories, but carries a deeper message. Family relationships were greatly affected by our departure from traditional life, and I do my best to explain this circumstance in an honest way. After the sale of Capricorn Lady, you will travel with me, from the silver sands and warm blue waters of the Caribbean to the Oregon Coast where Dan stood his final watch, finally losing his brave battle with Lung Cancer.

I hope you will find my books funny, moving, romantic and entertaining. Every single word is true.
